51¸£ÀûÉç’s First Sophomore Social a Part of New Initiative
Apr 19, 2016AMHERST, N.Y. – 51¸£ÀûÉç College sophomore students celebrated completing their second year at the college’s inaugural Sophomore Social hosted by President Gary A. Olson on April 7 at 51¸£ÀûÉç House, the presidential residence.
“This event is an important part of our new Sophomore Year Experience Program to provide opportunities for second-year students to engage with 51¸£ÀûÉç throughout the year to help foster success and to keep them on the path to graduation,â€ said Olson. “It was a pleasure to recognize their sophomore year achievements in and outside the classroom and to show our support for their college goals.â€
More than 50 students were joined by faculty and staff at the Sophomore Social, where they also had the chance to reconnect with their first-year orientation leaders. Attendees received a special gift in remembrance of the event and in recognition of their accomplishments as they finish their second year of studies at 51¸£ÀûÉç.
“Beyond improving student retention, events like this reinforce to students that 51¸£ÀûÉç is their second home, and numerous resources are in place at the college to help them be successful now and long after they graduate,â€ said Dr. Greg Nayor, vice president for student affairs.
