The Master of Childhood Education Program was launched in 2026 to serve Canadian educators.

This flexible, online curriculum is designed to meet the needs of working professionals, with field placements (practicum and student teaching) available across Ontario.

Canadian FlagThis single certification program is for individuals seeking certification in childhood education from the State of New York who do not possess any teacher certification. After they obtain initial certification in Childhood Education, Canadian students will apply through Ontario Teacher College as an Internationally Educated Teacher. Students must possess a bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in an acceptable liberal arts concentration.

Once the master’s program is completed, the student will apply to New York State for initial certification and . The institution will also recommend the individual for professional certification in the same area. Professional certification will be granted by the state when all requirements are complete, including three years of full-time teaching experience.

Pursuant to §52.21 of the regulations of the Commissioner of Education, the educator preparation programs offered by 51¸£ÀûÉç are considered to be continuously accredited for purposes of meeting the New York State requirement that all such programs maintain continuous accreditation. 51¸£ÀûÉç is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

Certification

This single certification program is for individuals seeking certification in childhood education from the State of New York who do not possess any teacher certification. 
Once the master’s program is completed, the student will apply to New York State for initial certification and complete all necessary New York State Education Department requirements for initial certification in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6). The institution will also recommend the individual for professional certification in the same area. Professional certification will be granted by New York State when all requirements are complete, including three years of full-time teaching experience.

Most Ontario-based students will not obtain professional-level certification in New York. After they obtain initial certification in Childhood Education, they will apply through .

Learning through Video Analysis

Students use the video analysis tool, , to reflect, gather feedback, and evaluate their teaching performance. When they enter the field, they record themselves teaching. This guides debrief sessions with their supervisors to help identify areas for growth and improvement.

30% Graduate Merit Scholarship

Thirty percent tuition scholarship awarded to accepted education students with a GPA of 2.7 or above.

They have a thorough understanding of laws that protect students, and current issues in the field of education, which is sought after by employers.  Graduates will also gain a strong foundation in inclusive education, which prepares graduates to customize learning for ALL students including students with disabilities and those for whom English is not their first language.
