Program Overview

Student in 51¸£ÀûÉç art gallery, puppets hanging on wall behind themIncreasingly, the artist is called upon to be well-skilled in various artistic disciplines. 51¸£ÀûÉç’s BFA provides students with a broad overview of multiple artistic disciplines within Studio Arts.  Learning and creating in several dedicated multi-disciplinary studio spaces and a professional gallery, students will pursue flexible course offerings that develop them into well-rounded artists.

The Studio Arts program emphasizes in-depth exploration of the field, enriched by the conceptual analysis provided by a liberal arts education. Students will be prepared to be a practicing artist upon graduation, and, for those intending to pursue an M.F.A., 51¸£ÀûÉç’s contemporary B.F.A. curriculum will aptly prepare them for specialized studio art tracks.

All High Art Weekend

51¸£ÀûÉç's All High Art Exhibition is a juried exhibition open to all high school juniors and seniors enrolled in secondary programs throughout the region. Applicants have the opportunity to exhibit their work in our campus gallery where $26,000 of annually renewable scholarships will be awarded across nine categories during the exhibition's opening ceremony.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Technical Proficiency and Studio Practice: Students will demonstrate technical proficiency and creative skill across a range of studio practices by producing original works in at least three of the following areas: Illustration, Painting, Ceramics, Graphic Design, and Serigraphy.
  2. Conceptual and Critical Thinking: Students will articulate and defend an individual artistic vision through written and verbal critiques, demonstrating the ability to analyze their work and others’ in relation to historical, theoretical, and cultural contexts.
  3. Professional Development: Students will apply professional practices by participating in BFA critiques, exhibiting their work in public venues, completing an internship or equivalent field experience, and developing a professional portfolio that reflects entrepreneurial and career-readiness skills.
